Associative recycling

La Recyclerie du Bandiat is a non-profit association born on December 30, 2022, which follows two years of a recycling project for Périgord Nontronnais (see our story).

The objectives of the association, as defined in the statutes:

  • Act to preserve the environment and resources, by working to reduce waste and fight against waste,
  • Exchange and transmit know-how, experiment and propose alternatives to our methods of manufacturing, consumption and our waste management,
  • Act for cooperation, shared governance and respect for all.
  • Be part of a concerted and sustainable waste management approach by involving all local stakeholders.

What do we do?

  • Free collection throughout Périgord Nontronnais of reusable objects and furniture
  • Valorization of recovered resources through sorting, cleaning, repair, estimation, shelving, dismantling, recycling.
  • Sale in our solidarity store: at free price or at displayed prices (third of the new price)
  • Complete house clearance on quote
  • Animation of repair, creation and transformation workshops, including the Bandiatelier for carpentry.
  • Workshops and events (all audiences) to raise environmental awareness around the issue of waste and our consumption patterns. Guided tours, debates, activities with schools, contact us to discuss.
  • Creation of events linked to the association’s objectives.
  • Event animation: help with the management of eco-friendly events via tableware rental (in project)
  • Cooperation with neighboring recycling plants, formalized within a framework of exchanges of material resources and skills, to be developed with the Renaître network (Aquitaine recycling plants)

Our current or future projects, innovative specificities for recycling:

  • Plant Recycling: collection, sorting, recovery, sale of plants, reuse of organic materials, manufacturing and introduction to composters, and other activities related to the garden center.
  • Transformations of selected industrial waste and artistic crafts: a strong partnership with the Pôle des Métiers d’Arts (Pema) would make it possible to link craftsmen and resources to be transformed, in order to create a virtuous local loop, and generate objects of art and design from resources destined for landfill.
  • Creation of a consultation group of textile reuse stakeholders in Périgord Nontronnais, in order to bring about reflection and why not technical and human resources to help each other on the management of this overflowing sector.
  • Inter-associative partnership within the framework of the Fabrique de Territoire label, Third Place approval awarded by the State: we are starting a collaboration with 3 local associations with the aim of one day bringing together our complementary activities (recycling, social living space , peasant-producers and transition project incubator) within the same site. In the summer of 2024, we are experimenting with a first cooperation by co-hosting the Loco site (former cooperative behind the cinema) thanks to the initiative of Ensad students who created the association La Mitoyenne for the occasion, and at the Nontron town hall which makes the site available.

A first project that moved:

The project for a recycling plant in Nontron started in 2021, with the connection between Agatha, an experienced recycler, and Aurélie, an entrepreneur, via the Emergence Périgord system. Noting a terrible lack of reuse in the sector, coupled with a distance from existing structures (within a radius of 35 km), the two women joined forces and founded the association Ça Circule! in summer 2021. They are launching a Répare Café, open from September in the Zone des Transitions premises in Nontron. An ambitious third-place project, combining recycling, social living space, and artistic creation space, is imagined with members of the Gco, the future Atlas24 and the Pôle des métiers d’arts.

The locals are slow to come. Aurélie finally lands a premises made available by the municipality of Cussac (87) in the summer of 2022 and continues her journey with Ça Circule!, which almost at the same time won the Dordogne Participatory Budget for the purchase of a van. equipped for a mobile Coffee Repair. The Ouest Limousin recycling plant opens in September, and hires its first employees in January 2023.

A second concrete team:

Agatha remains project leader for the Nontron area, and then proposes a public meeting in Nontron in November 2022 with a view to forming a new association. La Recyclerie du Bandiat was born in December, from the meeting of Nico, Adeline, Vi, and Isa who joined the ship, then Cathel and Fabienne in January.

The project, initially led by Agatha Mirguet, a valorist by trade, involved other citizens of the region who became founders of the association: Virginie Maubert, Adeline Robert, Nicolas Saravia, Cathel Chignaguet and Isabelle Chaygnaud . Together, they constitute a collegial council to co-direct the structure and decide on their governance, the project strategy and its launch.

We then have a concrete team to finally start this big, useful project!
